First Day Information

YOUR FIRST DAY

At BISS we will do our best to make sure your first day goes smoothly and that you are made to feel comfortable and welcome. The staff at BISS are all very friendly and helpful and will answer any questions that you may have.

When you arrive at school at around 8.30, you will be met by the BISS team. You will then have a welcome talk from the Principal. After this you will have a tour of the school and a placement test. After your placement test, we will tell you your level, classroom and teacher. If at any point you are not happy with your level, you can talk to Carmel, the Director of Studies.

You will then be provided with your ID and a welcome pack, which includes maps and important information. Please wear your ID at all times. You will be shown where you live and where the city centre and the shopping areas are on a map. You will also receive student information with all relevant numbers and helpful information. At 12.10 in the afternoon, an activity leader will show you where the bus stop is and take you to the city centre, which is approximately 15 minutes away. You will then have a tour of Brighton. The centre of Brighton is quite small, and the shopping areas, Royal Pavilion, Brighton Pier and Churchill Square are all within walking distance.

Your leader will take you to the bus stop and make sure you know your way home to your home stay. The first day usually ends around 5pm.

Your host family will tell you what time you have to be home for dinner.

Families tend to eat fairly early in Britain, so if you are not coming back for dinner please inform your family.

BISS does not directly supervise students whilst travelling to and from school and from activities back to their host families. See STUDENTS’ WELFARE for more information.
